A family firm set up in 1979, Wu Tong Industrial produces Raschel, Jacquardtronic, and Textronic laces. The firm generates an annual turnover of $US21 million and employs 400 people in its two knitting and dyeing facilities in Taiwan. The company, integrated from yarn to dye, is equipped with Karl Mayer technology, including 35 Raschel looms, 30 Jacquardtronic knitting machines, and five Textronic knitting machines. Every month, Wu Tong Industrial sells approximately 650,000 meters of 140cm wide, rigid all-over lace. It produces 70 tons per month and has a storage facility for 10 tons of greige yarn.
The company, which is Oeko-Tex certified, provides a range of original products. Wu Tong Industrial offers a broad choice of lace finishes and special treatments including fringed, pleated, laminated, flocked, sequined, and screen prints. The purchase of lace manufacturer Guy Birkin in 2006 means that Wu Tong is able to offer reasonable prices on Raschel lace products based on English Leavers lace designs.
Export accounts for 70 percent of the company’s turnover. Wu Tong has agents in France, Spain, Japan, Poland, and Australia, as well as in the United States and the United Kingdom. Sales in the French market are growing rapidly. Wu Tong is a partner to brands and groups such as H&M, Marks & Spencer, Victoria’s Secret, Etam, Passionata, Darjeeling, Wacoal, Calvin Klein, Gap, Hunkemöller, Bendon, and Hanesbrands Inc.
